A heartbroken first post

My heart is a little bit broken this morning at the news that Anne Rice has passed away. I'm not usually affected by 'celebrity deaths' but Anne's Vampire Chronicles had such a profound impact on me when I was younger - they shaped my teens and into my early twenties: so much of my love of vampires, of horror, of the gothic, of the supernatural comes from those books.

I was 13 when it came out, and snuck into the cinema to see it with a couple of friends. We already had a reputation for being a bit weird, I loved vampires and this had Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt - we couldn't not see it. I fell IN LOVE with Lestat & Louis. I remember going to WH Smith on the way home and picking up copies of Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat & Queen Of The Damned.

And wow. If I thought I was in love with them? The books blew my teenage mind! I have yet to fall back out of love with them.

I started decorating yesterday and had planned on continuing today and into the couple of days off work I have next week but that has now been put on hold. I have picked up my 25+ year, very battered, many times re-read copy of Interview With The Vampire and got comfy on my big squishy new sofa to spend some time with my favourite fictional people.

RIP Anne.
Thank you for everything

I was also saddened by the news of Anne's passing. A few months ago, I'd gone back to reading, The Witching Hour; She was an amazing writer/storyteller. Interview with the Vampire is still a favourite. I hope you'll find comfort in revisiting her stories/characters that made such a beautiful imprint on so many of us.

I can relate so much to what you've said about Anne Rice. I also read and fell in love with her books, her characters, and her world, when I was young. She just has this amazing way of finding beauty in darkness. Her passing is so sad.

Her passing saddens me, though I wasn't a big fan (which is strange, since I've loved vampires since I was a kid), I did watch the film "Interview With The Vampire" more than once as a teen (no doubt it influenced me), and her book "Violin", ohhhh, it made its mark. 💖 "Memnoch The Devil" also touched my young life in a way. And I remember reading something about her being "haunted" in a sense by Lestat, and I could relate, maybe she'd understand my own experiences. May she rest in peace.
